Meet Jesse

We have a new face here at Breakthrough: meet our new Reentry Specialist, Jesse!

Jesse is a believer in second chances, and that everyone has a chance to learn at any age.

Jesse wants to help people make their lives and the ones they love become better by guiding them to the right information. He earned his Master of Library Science from Emporia State University and his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Humboldt State University, and has worked in libraries helping students in various educational institutions find the proper information and with research projects.

Jesse has experience with nonprofit organizations as an outreach manager.  He helps our justice-involved citizens find employment, housing, medical, food resources and wants to help people repair their lives.

Let’s get to know Jesse a little bit more!

Where were you born?
Illinois.

What is your favorite color?
Forest Green.

What is your favorite food?
Mediterranean, Kosher Soul Food, Bar B Q, Mexican, German, Asian fusion, anything really.  Just not pork, shellfish or meat and dairy together…I have a pallet for a lot of flavors.

What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?
Ride my Stella scooter and listen to various types of music.  I also like watching quarky shows on Netflix.  The latest movie I watched was Llamageddon, Eagle vs. Shark, and A Futile and Stupid Gesture.

Are you a dog person or cat person?
Lill lap dogs. I had weiner dog, a rat terrier, and a chihuahua.

What has been your favorite job so far?
This one, I’ve always done my best to help people with finding and using resources that would help them in life in any situation.  It’s a hybrid position where I work from the office and the other I work remotely.

Why did you want to help the men and women who are incarcerated here in Colorado?
I believe in second chances and that everyone has a chance to get their lives back.

What is your favorite part of your job as a Reentry Specialist?
Seeing people become successful even though there has been a little wrinkle in their lives.

What is your favorite part of the Breakthrough in-prison programming
I’ve only been to the business pitch at LVCF.  I look forward to working with more people who are in our community.

Anything else you want to add:
I’m rebuilding my life with the help of G-d and Breakthrough.
